Blog Challenge "M"

Today officially marks the halfway point of the A to Z blog challenge.  I hope you've learned a thing or two along the way!

M is for: Mogigraphia

Mogigraphia is the medical term for writer's cramp.  It doesn't really happen all that much any more, since most "writing" is done on computers these days.  (Now, you get carpal tunnel syndrome from typing . . .)  But I can only imagine how terrible it must have been for any professional writer up until the typewriter was invented.

That's not to say that is isn't ever an issue.  I seem to recall several essay-style exams in college which ended in mogigraphia!

Gosh, I can't imagine not being able to write on a computer. That would suck.

(...sounds more like the geography of feline territories!)

It must have been dreadful back in the days before mechanical writing - imagine an author with ideas flooding his/her brain yet unable to hold a pen to release them onto the page. At least with a typewriter/keyboard you could strike the keys systematically, even if you had to do it one letter at a time - time-consuming, but at least do-able!

I am learning a lot on this site. I can now tell students that if they get get mogigraphia and a lardaceous kinkle in their necks during an exam, they should perhaps take some muscle relaxers during jentation.

I still write by hand so I do get tired fingers sometime :) Not a cramp, but quite close.

Any lecture class in college I ended up with it! And, what about filling out forms? Even today, there's always a mound of paperwork to be done- which, because we all use keyboards normally causes serious Mogigraphia.
